ORANGE- James A. Berry, 76, of Eagleville Road, died Wednesday evening, June 26, 2024 at Fitchburg Healthcare.
Born in Greenfield on May 25, 1948, he was the son of James E. Berry and Eunice E. (Taylor) Berry and grew up in Greenfield.
At age 17, James enlisted into the United States Army on July 26, 1965 and served in Vietnam following training at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina. He was honorably discharged on January 30, 1969.
In 1969, James married Rose (LePan) and enjoyed over 40 years of marriage until her death in 2010.
James worked as a trackman for B&M Railroad, which later became Guilford Industries and Pan Am.
An outdoorsman, James enjoyed gardening and doing yard work. He loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, as well as woodworking and furniture re-finishing. James also enjoyed the ocean, especially Cape Cod.
Survivors include his sons, James Berry and his wife, Allie, of Shutesbury and Scott Berry of Athol; his grandchildren, Jacob, Kameron, Kayden and Maggie. He also leaves behind his brothers, William Berry and his wife Jennia of Orange, Charles Berry and his wife Doris of Orange and Michael Porey of Virginia; sisters, Joan Goulette of New Hampshire, Nancy Porey of North Carolina and Carol Mackie of Orange; along with many nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, James was predeceased by a son, Thomas Berry, and a brother, Doug Berry.
There are no calling hours or services at this time.
