ORANGE- James W. Walker Sr., 99, of Adams Street and proud World War Two veteran, died at home on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.
Born in Athol on March 28, 1922, he was the son of James B. and Lillian (Jillson) Walker.
James enlisted into the United States Army the day after Christmas, December 26, 1942 and served with honor during World War Two. He was honorably discharged on October 16, 1945. While serving in the Army, James earned a Good Conduct medal, a Sharp Shooter medal and the European and Africa Theatre Campaign ribbons.
On April 24, 1958, James married Elsie (Richards) and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage until her death on May 12, 2009.
James had worked for the J.F. McElwain Shoe Shop as well as the Erving Paper Mill, Orange Shoe Shop and the Torrington Needle Shop.
Always very active, James enjoyed walking and kept his yard up. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fly fishing.
He is survived by his son, James W. Walker Jr. and his companion, Mary Britt, of Orange.
Interment with military honors will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon on July 6, 2021 at 2 p.m.
