Janet M. (Letourneau) Mann Obituary

BALDWINVILLE – Janet M. (Letourneau) Mann, died on Friday, April 28, 2023 at home, peacefully with family after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer.

Janet was born May 13, 1947 in Winchendon, MA to Joseph R. and Julia D. (Augustine) Letourneau.

Janet’s 50-year career in the retail lumber industry started in the summer of 1968, at T.S. Mann Lumber in Athol, later becoming manager and owner of the Orange MA location and ended in 2018, retiring as owner of County Line Lumber in Athol.

She will be best remembered for her service work to the community.  Most notably, she was a Founder of the Athol Area United way and would also be a Campaign Chair and President of The Board.  She also served on the Board of Trustees of Athol Memorial Hospital, as well as Board of Directors of the Athol YMCA and United Way of North Central MA.  She also was a member or volunteered with many local service organizations including the local Red Cross, Athol Women’s Club, and Red Hat Society, to name a few.  She graduated Athol High school, in the notable class of 1965

Janet lived a full life and her many interests include fishing at Sportsman’s Pond and trying her hand at the casino.   She loved to cook, and also go out to dinner with family and friends.  Her favorite restaurant was one she had never been to before; she loved trying new places to eat, drink, and enjoy time with family and friends.  Her last meal was the famous family recipe of Sunday morning Popovers and was sure to offer advice on how to make them come out just right.  And they did.  Not one to have regrets, Janet’s last tear to fall down her cheek was a tear of joy after seeing the beautiful video and photos of her granddaughter’s recent wedding.

Janet leaves four siblings; Joe Letourneau and wife Judy of Arizona.  Anna Upshaw and husband Arthur of Florida, Gloria Laffond and husband Roger of Athol, as well as her brother John Letourneau of Athol.  Janet leaves three sons, Tom Mann and wife Theresa of Athol, Eric Mann of Florida, and Casey Mann, also of Florida.  She leaves two granddaughters; Mackenzie Kendrick and husband Jack of Arizona, and Jessica Mann and fiancé Lennon Robichaud of Texas.  And of course, many beloved nieces and nephews.  She was previously married to Thomas “Sid” Mann for 33 years.  Her loving partner of many years, Gene Parmenter of Baldwinville, will miss her sadly.
