John L. Wise

PHILLIPSTON- John L. Wise, 90, of State Road, died on Sunday evening, January 26, 2025 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.

Born in Athol on September 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Ralph L. and Marion E. (McGinnis) Wise and grew up in Phillipston and graduated from Athol High School in 1953.

Following high school, John went to work at the Rodney Hunt Co. in Orange before enlisting in the United States Air Force on March 15, 1957. He was honorably discharged on March 14, 1961.

On March 10, 1956, John married Arlene (Bassett) and they enjoyed over 68 years of marriage.

Following his service in the Air Force, John returned to work at the Rodney Hunt Co. and retired from there after 43 years. During his employment, John traveled all over the world for the company.

John enjoyed doing yard work and was proud of his extensive vegetable garden, which provided plenty of produce for Arlene to can so the family would have plenty of vegetables all winter. John had also enjoyed woodworking and camping.

John had built his own home and helped both his children with theirs as well.

Survivors include his loving wife, Arlene Wise of Phillipston; daughter, Cheryl Wilson of Hubbardston; John G. Wise and his wife Jackie of Phillipston; three grandchildren, Brannen Wilson and wife Alyssa of Phillipston, Dane Wilson and wife Brittany of Phillipston and Asa Wise of Worcester; great grandchildren, Richard, Roman, Eva, Rosalyn and Rahea Wilson; and a brother, Richard E. Wise and his wife Amy of Smyrna, TN.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a sister, Irene Davidson.
