Josephine "Josie" (Dombroski) Songer

ORANGE- Josephine “Josie” (Dombroski) Songer, 92, of East River Street, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Easter Sunday, April 9 2023.

Born in Athol on July 29, 1930, the sixth child of Elizabeth (Yetter) and Stanley Dombroski. She grew up in Three Rivers until the age of 15, moving to Orange and graduated from Orange High School in 1948.

She met her future husband, Laurence “Larry” Songer, when he returned home from the Navy in 1946 and were married on April 21, 1951 at St. Mary’s Church in Orange and enjoyed almost 69 years of marriage until his passing on December 13, 2019.

Josie enjoyed her four children and the many vacations they all took together. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and bingo. Her and Larry spent many good times with friends playing cards and going dancing.

Josie worked at Erving Paper Mills for 40 years, starting as a packer and worked up to becoming a supervisor before retiring.

Survivors include her four children, Mark Songer (Ann Egan) of Nantucket, Blaine Songer (Janice Stacy) of Athol, Robin Hamlett of Orange, and Tracy Songer of Orange. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Sarah Piragis, Sean Hamlett, Curtis Songer, Jeremy Songer, Brandon Carpenter and Alicia Pitsinger, and enjoyed her great grandchildren, Kacie and Avery Piragis, Calvin and Parker Hamlett, Layla Songer and Lucas Fish; a brother, Charles Dombroski of New Port Richey, FL; and several nephews and nieces.

Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by brothers, Elliott and Joseph, and sisters, Irene, Katherine, Grace, and June.

There are no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held on April 29, 2023 at 11 a.m. in South Cemetery, 585 South Main Street, Orange.

Following the graveside service, a celebration of life will be held from 12 noon to 5 p.m., at the Orange American Legion, 40 Daniel Shays Highway, Orange.
