ORANGE- Julia A. (Kerswig) Cormier, 95, of Mechanic Street, died peacefully at home on Thursday afternoon, May 20, 2021 after a long illness, with loved ones at her side.
Born in Montague on September 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Mary A. (Cronin) Kerswig and attended Holy Trinity in Greenfield through seventh grade. She then moved to Erving and graduated from Orange High School in 1943.
On June 1, 1946, Julia married Robert H. Cormier and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage and raising their family, until Robert’s death on July 2, 2007.
Julia worked as a classroom aide at Butterfield School in Orange for many years where she was very well loved by students and staff before retiring.
A skilled crafter in many materials, Julia especially was talented in tatting, caning and knitting among many other crafts. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed reading. Most of all, Julia loved her family.
Julia was a member of Saint Mary’s Church in Orange.
Survivors include her loving children, Barry Cormier and his wife, Constance, Kathleen Mitchell and her husband, Bruce, all of Orange, Sharon Whitehouse and her husband, Barry, of Athol and Robert Cormier Jr.. and his wife, Robin, of Fernandina Beach, FL; eight grandchildren, Steven Cormier, Michael Cormier, David Cormier, Katelyn Rivera, Lisa Mitchell Merritt, Jennifer Mitchell Feyrer, Neil Whitehouse, and Julie Gould. She also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Edward J. Kerswig Jr. of Greenfield; and several nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 10-10:45 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 27th at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church, 19 Congress Street, Orange, with Fr. Shaun O’Connor officiating.
Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
