ORANGE- Kathryn Ann Spooner of Orange, Massachusetts, died in her home on Friday, October 15, 2021.
She was born October 6, 1943 in Gardner, Massachusetts to William and Kathryn (Flood) Spooner. Kathy, as she was known, was a Mahar High School graduate of the Class of 1962. She went on to graduate from Fitchburg State College in 1966 with a degree in History. She later earned her Master’s from Boston State College.
She went to work as a fourth grade teacher and retired from Chelmsford School District. She was proud of her accomplishments as a teacher there; especially of note her bringing to life through plays the writings of Laura Ingalls Wilder for her young readers.
Kathy lived out her retirement in the family home in Orange. Kathy loved to read and travel and was an avid tennis player. She enjoyed her many trips to Bermuda, Paris, London, Cape Hatteras, and York Beach, as well as other European cities.
She also enjoyed spending time walking her dogs in the local area, swimming at Lake Mattawa and enjoying sunsets at the Orange Airport.
Kathy is survived by her brothers, William Spooner and his wife, Ruth, of Warwick and Terrance Spooner and his wife, Jean, of Putnam Valley, New York; her nephews, Bill Spooner and his wife, Gosia, and Benjamin Spooner and his wife, Kristen; nieces, Emily Mitchell, Tara Naughter and her husband, Robert, and Tracy Budney and her husband, Jonathan; as well as her grandnieces and nephews, Vincent, Ryan, Thomas, Henry, Hannah, Isla, Sienna, Antione, and Allison. Kathy also leaves good friends, Mary Ann Herk and Timothy Herk of Orange.
Kathy was always thankful for the many students that kept in touch throughout the years.
