Kenneth W. Bright Obituary

NEW SALEM- Kenneth W. Bright, 80, of New Salem died February 14, 2022.

Born June 12, 1941, and raised in Penllyn, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Walter L. Bright, Jr. and Hanna (Bernhard) Bright.

He graduated from Williamson College of the Trades, working first with his father.  Forever a carpenter, he was an active member of the Community Ambulance Association of Ambler and in 1967 began another career, working his way up through the ranks as a police officer with Lower Gwynedd Township, Pennsylvania.  While a policeman, he graduated from the FBI National Academy for law enforcement training.  In 2002, he retired as chief and was appointed township supervisor the next year.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Deger) Bright of 59 years; sister, Carolyn (Bright) Trupp, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; and his sons, Stephen K. Bright of New Jersey and Eric W. Bright, Belchertown; grandchildren, Franziska, Schuyler and Cairn Bright of Belchertown.

He was a member of Horseways, NEECA and the Ambler Symphony Orchestra.

Moving to Massachusetts in 2007 to be near his grandchildren, and where he could stable horses on his own property, he liked woodworking, training his dog and playing trombone in the Orange and Belchertown community bands.

He was well-respected for his quiet, confident leadership in service to the community, and people appreciated his practical, direct talk.  While known for his pranks and jokes, he also protected and cared for others, willing to help those in need, including animals.
