ELLENTON, FL- Lawrence Eugene Hardy, Sr. 95, of Ellenton, Florida, formerly of Athol, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
He was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on June 24, 1928 to Paul E. and Ethel M. (Hamlet) Hardy.
He married Caroline R. Bailey. on August 20, 1949, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2014.
He leaves four sons; Lawrence E. Hardy, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth E. (O’Laughlin) Hardy, James P. Hardy, Steven E. Hardy and his wife Nancy (Gotzmer) Hardy, and John L. Hardy, and his wife Jana K. (Adkins) Hardy.
He also leaves seven grandchildren; Justin Hardy and his wife Stephanie; their daughters Madeleine and Callahan, Alison Hardy; her son Jackson Patridge, Mary Jacobson and her husband Eric; their daughters Scarlet and Sabrina, Joseph Hardy, Kaitlin Wilder and her husband Jason; their daughter Elizabeth, Jessica Johnson; her daughters Leila and Emmalyn, and Jennifer Bridges and her husband Justin; their children Genevieve and John.
He was predeceased by his brother, Fred P. Hardy, in 2003. He leaves numerous inlaws, nieces and nephews.
Lawrence graduated from Athol High School in 1946, and then served in the United States Army from 1946-1947. He attended Bryant and Stratton Business School. He worked as a plumber for Engel Plumbing and Heating and Hardy Plumbing in Athol.
He and Caroline were blessed with a lengthy retirement in Bradenton and Ellenton, Florida. He recently moved to Roseburg, Oregon where he resided with his granddaughter Alison Hardy, who lovingly attended to him in his final weeks.
He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.
A calling hour will be held at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, on Wednesday, May 15th from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with Rev. Josh Vachon officiating.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is assisting the family.
