ORANGE- Leslie H. Barnes, 96, of Burrill Avenue, died surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Born in Orange on July 24, 1928, he was the son of Harold and Myrtle (Swan) Barnes, and graduated from Orange High School.
On November 3, 1950, Leslie was enlisted into the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on October 9, 1952.
On February 13, 1955, Leslie married Madelene L. (Carpenter) and enjoyed 69 years together.
Leslie was founder and president of Harris Manufacturing Foundry before retiring.
An avid sportsman, Leslie, a true sportsman, enjoyed chopping firewood, fishing, hunting, and trap shooting. He passed his love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife, Madelene Barnes of Orange; his children, Donald Barnes (Alita) of Orange, Sharon Reardon of Sutton, Glenn Barnes (Janey) of Raleigh, NC, Lynn Chase (Richard) of Orange, Pam Dickson (Garth) of Barre and Susan Obrien (Patrick) of Petersham; grandchildren, Keith Reardon (Elaine), Catherine Labelle (Rob), Peter Barnes (Mary Claire), Ethan Dickson (Colleen), Gregory Barnes, Kyla Spallone (Aaron), Hillary Chase, Haley Barnes (Matthew), Colin Obrien (Emma), Corinne Chase (Henry), Joslyn Obrien and Mikell Barnes; great grandchildren, Trent Labelle, Liliana Reardon, Thomas Reardon, June Reardon and three more on the way. Leslie also leaves his siblings, Nancy J. Blackmer of North Orange, Alice Woessner of Athol, Leroy Barnes of Rome, NY, Harriet Kring of Milton, WA and Kenneth Barnes of Columbia, MD; many nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.
Besides his parents, Leslie was predeceased by a grandson, Anthony J. Reardon and a son in law, Walter A. Reardon.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 9:30- 11:00 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home in Orange with Rev. Judy Jones of the Orange United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
