LEVERETT- Lillian Black, 103, formally of Leverett, MA passed on June 26, 2023 at her daughter's home in Taunton, MA where she had resided in recent years.
Daughter of Ruth (Briggs) and Henry Towne. She was educated at a one room school house in Moores Corner and then went on to graduate from Amherst High School in 1938. That same summer her mother passed away and she took on the responsibility of the household helping to raise the three younger siblings. In November of that year she married James Black of Leverett, MA. They lived at the Homestead until her sister graduated from high school and assume the family responsibilities. They lived for a short time in Farley, MA then moved to North Leverett Road, Leverett, MA and in 1943 moved to the farm on Hemenway Road.
Before James passed in 2009 they had celebrated 70 years of marriage.
She is survived by their three daughters, Ruth, husband Ron Beloli of Taunton, MA, Lois Mono of Greenfield, MA and Janice, husband Cal Kyniston of Portland OR; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great great grand children. Also surviving is one sister Hilda Williams of Leverett, MA, several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
She was predeceased by her siblings Evelyn Slobody, Eunice Ball and Elmer (Bun) Towne.
Funeral services will be held at the North Leverett Baptist Church at 2 PM on Friday, July 7, 2023.
Calling hours prior to the service will be at the church starting at noon.
Interment will be at the Plainview cemetery in North Leverett.
In lieu of flowers. Donations may be made to the local churches, North Leverett Baptist Church or Moores Corner Church.
Following interment there will be a collation back at the church. Everyone is invited.
