GREENFIELD – LuAnn Marie Hiscock, affectionately known to many by her nickname LuLu, passed away on July 17th, 2023, after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
She was born on July 29, 1954, in Winchendon, MA to parents Robert and Doris (Zani) Sinclair.
She leaves behind her son Dr. Joshua Hiscock, brother, Terry Sinclair and sister-in-law Angela Sinclair, uncle Ronald Austin, nephews Jesse Sinclair and Jody Sinclair, nieces Allison Tindall and Melanie Rose, numerous cousins, and many other family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Gary D. Hiscock in 1998.
LuAnn grew up in Orange alongside fellow family members on Terrace Street before moving to Carpenter Street. She attended the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School and graduated in 1972. LuAnn worked as a secretary at Union Twist Drill (UTD) in Athol for many years before the factory closed. It was here that she met her future husband, Gary. They were married in 1974 and enjoyed 24 years together until Gary’s untimely passing in 1998. While they lived on Anzio Road in Athol for some time, Orange ultimately became their long-term home.
LuAnn enjoyed working with children. Following her time at UTD, she became a special education aide with the Orange School System and held the role for many years. Through much of the mid-1990s, she led the CCD program at St. Mary’s Church in Orange before returning to the role of special education aide at Mahar. She left the role in 2004. LuAnn moved to Greenfield in 2014 to be closer to her brother Terry, who along with his wife Angela, lovingly took care of her as her illness progressed.
LuAnn had many hobbies. In her younger years, she made beautiful macramé baskets for friends and family and enjoyed ceramics. She was a fan of word search puzzle books and always had one at the ready. LuAnn enjoyed collecting commemorative spoons from the trips her son Josh took and placed them in beautiful displays. More recently, LuAnn developed a love for movies on the Lifetime and SyFy channels and staying connected to her friends and family via Facebook. Her most treasured possession was her iPhone because it linked her to everyone she loved and cared about. We will all miss her posts and daily text messages.

LuAnn was a tremendous supporter of education and always encouraged her son Joshua to attend college and pursue his academic dreams. Scholarships helped to make those dreams a reality. In her passing, LuAnn would want other young students to find similar encouragement and the financial means to pursue higher education.
