ORANGE- Lucia M. Cavaliere of Charles Street, died on July 3, 2023 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Born in Renovo, Pennsylvania, December 11, 1924. A daughter of Biaggio and Virginia (Mazzula) Cavaliere, she grew up in Renovo, attended St. Joseph High School and later Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She also studied physiology at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut.
She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, Carbondale, Pennsylvania.
After moving to the Athol-Orange area in 1951, she worked at Athol Memorial Hospital and worked at the L. S. Starrett Co., Athol, First Aid Department thirty four years until retiring in 1986.
Since retiring, she has been involved in committee, civic, social and charitable work in the area.
A member of St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Women’s Club, Orange Senior Citizens Club, Orange Council on Aging and Orange Historical Society.
A Charter member of the Armory Commission since its organization in 1991, she has served as Secretary-Treasurer since 1991.
She worked on the fund raising events for the Armory Fund including flea markets, thrift shop, card parties, dances and fairs.
She designed a flag for the Town of Orange sponsored by the Orange Council on Aging. The flag is on display in the Statehouse Hall of Flags in Boston.
Lucy was predeceased by her parents and two of her brothers, Joseph Cavaliere and Gerald Cavaliere
Lucy leaves behind her daughter Virginia Vernon and her husband Vince McGee of Atlanta GA; her two grandsons, David Barnes and his wife Heather Barnes of New Salem MA, and Justin Barnes of Sarasota FL; her three great grandchildren, Erica Tero and her husband Christopher Tero Jr of Wendell MA, Morgan Barnes and Isaiah Barnes both from New Salem, MA; her two great great grandchildren Mason Tero and Emmie Tero both of Wendell MA and her brother Albert Cavaliere of Ridgeway, PA.
There are no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on July 17, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 19 Congress Street, Orange, MA 01364.
Private burial will be held in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hyner, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers her family has requested that donations be made to either the St. Mary’s Woman’s Club, 19 Congress Street, Orange, MA 01364 or The Friends of Athol Hospital, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
