ATHOL- Marcia E. (Phelps) Legassey, 86, of North Orange Road, died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 3, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Athol on April 11, 1937, she was the daughter of Clement and Helen (Cone) Phelps.
Marcia had been a supervisor at Duall Plastics for 29 years before retiring.
Marcia has been married to Lionel G. “Lee” Legassey for 25 years.
A member of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church and its choir, she worked numerous fairs and suppers. Marcia had also been a member of the Athol Area YMCA.
Survivors include her loving husband, Lionel G. Legassey, of Athol; her children, Susan Bouchard and her husband, Donald, of Templeton, Ronald Gates and his wife, Lorraine “Lori”, of Warwick, and Rebecca Lambert and her husband, David, of Ohio. Marcia was also blessed with ten step children, Jane McDonald and her husband, John, of Westminster, Carol Sprague and her husband, Mark, of North Orange, Michael Legassey and his wife, Merri-Lee, of Athol, Margaret Bennington and her husband, Philip, of Athol, Marie LeBlanc and her husband, Joseph, of Athol, and Monica Sprague and her husband, Elmer, of Caribou, Maine, Malisa Younger and her husband, Steven, of Athol, Marcia Dexter and husband, Todd, of Warwick, and Mae Beth Schuermand and her husband, Kenneth, of Pennsylvania, and Melanie Jillson, who predeceased her. Marcia also leaves 45 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild; along with nephews, nieces and cousins, as well as a son in law, Donald Jillson of Orange and sister in law, Barbara Phelps, of Athol.
Besides her parents and step daughter, Marcia was predeceased by a brother, Clement Phelps, and sisters, Marilyn Kimball and Beverly Woodward.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island Street, Athol.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the church.
Following the service, interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
