ORANGE- Margaret A. (Carey) Dyer, 86, of Grove Street, died on Monday afternoon, August 19, 2024 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
Born in Gardner on March 3, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Merle A. and Mary (Clement) Carey and grew up in the Athol- Orange area and graduated from Orange High School in 1956
On November 30, 1963, Margaret married Robert J. Dyer at St. Mary’s Church in Orange and enjoyed 54 years together until his death on October 2, 2018.
Margaret was employed by the Town of Orange for many years as the administrative assistant at the Board of Health before retiring. She had previously worked at the Orange Savings Bank and the J. F. McElwain Shoe Co.
A member of St. Mary’s Church, she also was a member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Club.
Margaret loved her pets, especially many dogs and cats throughout the years. She also enjoyed the New England Patriots as well as hockey.
Survivors include nieces, Mary Brundage and her husband Zebulon of Nashua, NH Vicenta Carey of Delaware; nephews, William Schmidt and his wife Jacy of Chelmsford and Joseph Carey of New Jersey; several grandnephews and grandnieces; a close friend, Tammy Woodard and her husband Rob of Orange; as well as being Godmother to several.
Besides her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by a brother, Charles Carey, and by a sister, Alice Schmidt.
Her smile and happy nature will be greatly missed.
There are no calling hours.
There will be a memorial Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on September 12, 2024 at 11 a.m., in St. Mary’s Church, 19 Congress Street with Fr. Mark Glover officiating.
Interment will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, at 1 p.m.
A celebration of life will be held at the King Phillip Restaurant, 35 State Road (Route 2A), Phillipston, will be at 2 p.m. following the interment service.
