ATHOL- Mark P. Killay, 68, of Athol, died on Sunday, January 05, 2025, at home after a period of declining health.
Born in Athol on March 14, 1956, he was the son of the late John C. and Anne M. (Richards) Killay. He graduated from Athol-Royalston Regional High School with the class of 1974. He continued his education earning a Bachelor’s Degree summa cum laude from Assumption College in 1978.
Mark is survived by his brother, Christopher (Diane) of Shrewsbury, MA, and sisters Jane (Henry) Shaughnessy of Turners Falls, MA, Maureen Killay of Rye, NH, and Brigid (Paul) Killian of Groton, MA. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, George (Morgan), Mary, John, Helen Killian, Maeve Shaughnessy, and Madison Killay, and his caregiver and companion, Lucas Macena.
Mark began his work career early in the family business of W.H. Killay and Co. He dutifully took over the store until its closure in 1994. Mark worked for over thirty years as an accountant for Digital Equipment, Co., Enser, Inc., and L.S. Starrett, Co.
Mark loved the ocean making sure his vacations were seaside. However, his fondest memory was traveling to Brazil to meet Lucas’s family.
Mark was a kind and caring brother, uncle, and friend. He will always be remembered as a thoughtful, considerate, and compassionate individual.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 15, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol.
Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s name may be made to Athol Hospital, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
