SOUTH ATHOL—Mary A. Sawin, 79, passed away peacefully November 18, 2022 at Athol Hospital.
Born in Bernardston, MA on March 25, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Maxine (Magoon) Smith. She graduated from Brattleboro Union High School.
She found love with Jesse L. Sawin when they were brought together through online correspondence. They married on September 18, 2010. He passed away on May 13, 2021.
She worked as a CNA for many years. Mary loved flowers and music, especially country, gospel, 50’s and 60’s music. She loved to quilt and to bake. Mary loved being with children and she loved Christmas. Mary will be dearly missed and always remembered.
Mary is survived by her children, Michael Waterman of Brattleboro, VT and Melissa Waterman of NY, and her sister, Kathy Knapp of Brattleboro, VT. She also leaves her grandchildren, Dana Waterman, Crystal Waterman, Kirsten Waterman, Kiaya Waterman, Shanna-Beth Waterman, and Travis Waterman. She leaves great grandchildren Kyle, Emma, Zoey, Kylie, Elias, Iziah, Promise, Jeremiah, Zachariah, Serenity, Zara, Myles and Lennox Shae. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She also leaves step children Eunice (Sawin) Parsons of Athol, Amy (Sawin) Boudreau of Orange and Eric Sawin of Athol. Also step grandchildren Eric Sawin II, Calista Sawin, Joli Parsons and Samuel Parsons and great granddaughter Nevaeh.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Francis Waterman, Jr. and her brothers Kermit Smith and Albert Smith.
An interment will be held at the South Cemetery 585 South Main Street, Orange, at 10:30 a.m, on Wednesday, November 30, followed by a service at The Salvation Army, 107 Ridge Ave., Athol.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to The Salvation Army, 107 Ridge Ave., Athol 01331 for the Angel Tree Christmas effort or pick up an Angel Tree tag from your local Salvation Army to buy gifts for a child for Christmas.
