Michael Bellemare
ORANGE- Michael Dougas Bellemare, Sr., 68 of Orange, passed away on May 18th 2023 after a long illness.
Born in Montague on March 16, 1955 to Marcel Bellemare and Shirley (Smith) Bellemare, he grew up in Turners Falls. Michael was a graduate of Turners Falls High School, and went on to work in the auto mechanic field before transitioning into human services. Together with the love of his life, Bette Jenks, they opened their home in 1981 to house, advocate, and care for disabled veterans. Through the years, they were able to assist over 50 veterans with services.
Michael was a life-long equestrian, who loved to fish and go camping. York Beach is where he was most at peace. A motorcycle enthusiast with many stories to tell, Michael was one of the toughest people on the planet, a passionate advocate for the disenfranchised, with a soft spot for his family.
Michael is survived by his loving partner of over 40 years, Bette Jenks, daughter, Johannah Jenks and her partner David Durkee of Athol, son, Cody Jenks and his wife, Sarah Nolan-Jenks of Orange, and son, Michael Bellemare, Jr. of Orange. He is also survived by grandchildren Isaac and Eva Jenks, and sisters Cathy, Debbie, and Rene.
There will be a celebration of life for Bette and Michael on September 23rd from 11am to 1pm at the Wheelerville Community Club 698 E. Main St Orange MA.
