Nathan B. "Nate" Steinberg Obituary

ORANGE- Nathan B. “Nate” Steinberg, 86, of Grove Street, died early Monday morning, May 16, 2022 at Cooley-Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

Born in Boston on January 20, 1936, he was the son of the late Abraham and Ida (Footnick) Steinberg and grew up in Boston, moving to Orange at age 7, where he attended Orange Schools. He later attended Northeastern University before enlisting in the United States Army.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Nate took over Town Hardware in Orange from his father and worked there over 40 years before retiring and closing the store. He helped many people find the right gadget, gizmo or paint to fix their homes up. He was extremely knowledgeable and was sought out often for his expertise. It was this knowledge that led him to come out of retirement when Hamshaw Lumber asked if he was interested in working part time. Nate of course agreed to work and would be employed there for 23 years until retiring once again.

Nate married Rose Marie “Rosey” Thoms on December 10, 1989, and they have enjoyed a great marriage for over 32 years.

Nate loved socializing and dining out and he and Rosey hosted numerous parties and get togethers over the years. They traveled to numerous places together and took part in the Easter parade in New York City. His humor and laughter was always appreciated by those around him.

Nate is survived by his loving wife, Rose Marie “Rosey” Thoms of Orange; a step daughter, Tracy Thoms of Orange; seven nephews and one niece; many cousins; and many friends.

Besides his parents, Nate was predeceased by a brother, Norman Steinberg, and sisters, Natalie Plotkin and Rosalyn Fiore.

Per Nate’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
