ORANGE- Philip K. Barr, 73, of Walnut Hill, died Friday morning, January 15, 2021 at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Binghamton, New York on April 23, 1947, he was the son of Clyde and Florence (White) Barr and grew up in New York and graduated from high school.
Philip enlisted in the United States Army on March 26, 1967 and made a 20 year career there, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1987.
On June 16, 1973, Philip married Yvette M. (Bigeau) and they have enjoyed 47 years of marriage and raising a family.
Following his Army career, Philip later went to work at Amherst College as a network and telecommunications technician and retired after 25+ years.
Philip enjoyed collecting baseball cards, watching old movies, reading and writing. He was also talented in drawing.
Philip is survived by his loving wife, Yvette Barr of Orange; children, Eric Barr of Orange, Desiree Sullivan and her husband, Mike, of Greenfield, Renee Shepherdson and Julie Barr, both of Florida; as well as great granddaughters, Destini Rose Sullivan and Winter Sullivan.
Besides his parents, Philip was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Barr.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
Funeral services and interment with military honors will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 1 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
