Orange — Local bon vivant Rev. Douglas Engstrom went home to Our Father at the age of 72 on Monday, September 12 after a bout with heart trouble. He was born in South Bend, IN to Rev. James Edward Engstrom and Virginia Pauline Hafstrom Engstrom on September 8, 1950. Doug loved learning and attended several higher education institutions: North Central University, The University of Minnesota (Bachelor of Arts), Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity), and University of Toronto (Master of Arts). His family affectionately called him, "our professional student."
A Spirit-filled and devout Christian, Doug was ordained and pastored Methodist churches in Orange and Athol before becoming a fixture at the Erving Evangelical Church.
Convivial and magnanimous host, Doug loved cooking, philosophy, literature, politics, traveling, and keeping current with lifelong friends and mentees from around the world. He enjoyed supporting and volunteering for Operation Christmas Child. Most of all, Doug cherished his intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and never hesitated to educate all who had ears to hear about our Savior. He was exceedingly generous with his time and loved to talk and pray with and for anyone.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Virginia Engstrom and survived by his brother Bryan Engstrom (Linda Lee), his sister, Linda Edwards (Howard), and niece and nephews: Amy Cohee (Lonnie), Ryan Edwards (Heidi), Eric Engstrom (Chasity), and Chris Engstrom.
