ATHOL- Richard Allen Newman passed March 6th surrounded by his wife, daughter, son and niece.
He was born June 1944 in Gardner to Lawrence and Irene Newman. He was raised and loved his childhood spent in South Royalston, where he met his best friend, soul mate and wife Carole Rexroad.
Dick had a deep tenderness for his family and is remembered by them as a quiet, simple man who appreciated sitting on his porch listening to birdsong and sipping his Cumberland’s coffee. If Dick could have two soul mates, the other would have been the outdoors- whether it was hunting, fly fishing, gardening, puttering from his lazy brook to his perfectly kept lawn, to a beautiful walk in the woods.
He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Carole; his son Allen and his wife, Tina; his daughter Cheryl and her husband Joseph; his niece, Cheryl and her husband Tom. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Sarah and her husband Derek, Joey and his wife Casandra, Gaelin, AJ, Jack, Kayla, and Timmy; his great grandchildren, Derek, Hannah, and a baby girl he didn’t have the opportunity to meet, who is due in May; a sister, Donna O’Donnell; a brother in law, Milton Rexroad Jr. and his wife Karen.
Dick was welcomed home by his family. We hope he sees and fishes in Lawrence Brook again, that he sees the ocean and the salt weathered Sea Turn sign. If Dick experiences even a quarter of the love we felt at his passing with his family in heaven, he is and was a well loved man.
