ATHOL- Richard C. “Dick” Smith, 87, of West Royalston Road, died on Monday morning, May 20, 2024 at Athol Hospital.
Born in Farmington, Connecticut at John Dempsey Hospital on November 30, 1936, he was the son of Orrin C. and Carrie (Price) Smith.
Following school, Dick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served four years until his honorable discharge.
Dick worked in construction most of his life including siding and roofing with Hanrahan Siding and Roofing, as well as working on the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant.
He was previously married to Susanne (Coomber).
Dick his survived by his children, Sandra Hamilton of Hinsdale, NH, Cheryl Piquette and her husband Wayne of West Virginia, and Rockingham Smith of Hinsdale, NH; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his long time companion, Virginia Cobbett of Athol; brothers, Frederick Smith of West Virginia and Robert Smith of Rhode Island; a sister, Carrie Bell Hayes of Waterloo, New York; and several nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, Dick was predeceased by a son in 1984 George Smith, two brothers, Douglas Smith and Rockingham Smith, as well as a step father, Harry Church.
There are no calling hours or services.
