PETERSHAM- Richard Charles Vogel was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on April 14, 1950, second son of Arthur David Vogel and Shirley Miller Vogel and died on December 30, 2024.
He attended the Springfield School system and is a graduate of Springfield Technical Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Arts. His first professional job was working for the college in the Graphic Arts Department. He was also employed with MJ O’Malley and Pond Ekberg. After a few years, he changed careers and worked as an engineering technician with Quabbin Industries. Again, a career change, and he worked for Agway and Crop Productions as a herbicide applicator and spent the last of his working years traveling to many of the farms in New England. Richard spent many happy years taking care of his land in Petersham, MA.
He enjoyed many hours swimming, water skiing on Otis Reservoir, snow skiing, gardening, chopping wood, and fishing. He loved animals and created many wood burning scenes of the farms he visited.
He leaves behind his wife Delia of 51 years; sons Carl Vogel of Poteau, Oklahoma and Anthony Vogel of Petersham; his seven grandchildren, Hector, Jenna, Connor, Bentley, Preston, Alex and Stephen; his sister Judy Reynolds and her husband Alan of Agawam; and many nephews and nieces.
He is predeceased by his father and mother, Arthur and Shirley Vogel, a sister Lynn Arsenault and a brother Robert Vogel.
Calling hours will be held on January 18, 2025 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on January 18, 2025 in the funeral home.
Burial will be in the spring at the West Road Cemetery in Petersham.
