ERVING- Richard R. “Rick” Sawicki Jr., 60, of North Street, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield after being stricken ill at home earlier.
Born in Northampton on January 11, 1961, he was the son of Richard R. Sr. and Ernestine (Booth) Sawicki and grew up in Pelham and graduated from Amherst High School in 1979.
Rick later graduated from Nichols College in 1983.
On October 19, 1995, Rick married Barbara (Bacigalupo) and enjoyed almost 26 years of marriage together.
In 2015, Rick took over Sawicki Real Estate following the death of his mother and was a hard working and respected realtor in the Pioneer Valley for many years. He previously had worked for Commercial Distributors, Liberty Distributors and United Distributors as a liquor salesman.
Rick loved hockey and enjoyed playing and coaching with his sons, as well as coaching the Viper’s Women’s team after his boys had stopped playing.
Very active in the real estate world, Rick was a member of the Pioneer Valley Real Estate Association, having served as a Past President and many boards, as well as a member of the Massachusetts Realtor’s Association, and the National Association of Realtors.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Sawicki of Erving; his sons, Christian Sawicki of Waterford, New York, and Kevin Sawicki of Milford; his father, Richard Sawicki and his wife, Cheryl of Granby; a brother, Scott Sawicki and his wife Denise, of Shutesbury; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from noon to 2 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Megan Leary of Orange Central Congregational Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to Franklin County Hockey Association, 41 Barr Avenue, Greenfield, MA 01301.
