Robert A. Barcomb

ATHOL- Robert A. Barcomb, 88, of West Royalston Road, died peacefully on November 8, 2023.

Born in North Adams on August 1, 1935, he was the son of Louis and Florence (Strafaci) and grew up and attended schools there and graduated from North Adams State College.

On April 15, 1967, Robert married Michaeleen M. (Whelan) and have enjoyed 56 years of marriage.

A teacher, Robert started his career in Clarksburg for a couple years before moving to Athol where he would go on to teach 33 years for Athol Junior High School. Along with teaching, Robert was a coach for the Junior High football, soccer and golf teams.

Active in scouting, Robert served as a Cub Master and Boy Scout leader for several troops.

An avid golfer, Robert also enjoyed bowling, and was a huge Boston sports fan. He absolutely loved coaching various sports teams.

Robert had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed volunteering at Athol High School and helping the youth in Athol.

Survivors include his loving wife, Micheleen Barcomb; his children, Martin C. Barcomb of Orange and Mary A. Kablin and her husband, Jimmy, of Wrentham; along with a niece and two nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

On Monday, November 20, 2023 family and friends will meet directly at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 101 Main Street, Athol for a 11 a.m.  Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be private in South View Cemetery, North Adams.
