Robert E. Whaley Sr.
ORANGE- Robert E. Whaley Sr., 67, of 519 East River Street, died on Thursday morning, January 5, 2012 at home, following an illness, with family at his side.
Born on May 12, 1944 in Kenensville, North Carolina, he was a son of George R. and Irene E. (Winstead) Whaley, and moved to Massachusetts during his teenage years.
Robert was married to Linda (Goodrum) on November 22, 1986, and have enjoyed over 25 years together.
Employed by the Athol Table Company for 20years as a foreman, he retired in 2004. Robert had also worked various jobs over the years.
Known as “Mr. Fix-it”, he enjoyed fixing things for family and friends. He also enjoyed his model planes.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Linda Whaley of Orange; sons, Robert E. Whaley Jr. and Harry E. Whaley, both of Athol; stepchildren, Leslie Whaley Jr. of Florida, Lynn M. Holt of Athol, Larry W. Whaley of Gardner, and Joshua T. Qualters of Orange; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Leslie Whaley Sr. of North Carolina; and sisters, Shirley McDowell, Mary Ellen Shortis, and Shelby Jean Ledford, all of North Carolina.
Robert was predeceased by a son, Chris E. Whaley in 1988, as well as a brother, Charlie Whaley in 2007.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial service and interment will be in North Carolina at a later date.
