ORANGE- Robert James Fisher passed on December 26, 2023
Born to James and Elberta Fisher in New Haven, CT on December 17, 1938, Bob graduated from Branford High School in 1957 and worked as a police officer for the railroad.
He moved his family to Orange, MA in 1970. In Orange he worked at Athol Daily News as Circulation Manager, at WCAT in sales ,as well as owner of the Cottage Restaurant in Erving in the late 70’s. At that time he moved back to Connecticut where he became a cook in restaurants, including his own seafood restaurant.
Bob was on the Mahar School Committee for two terms, a Deacon at the Central Congregational Church, on the Personnel Committee in town, and also a brief stint as Civil Defense Director for Orange. He was on the committee for the Bicentennial parade in 1976, which at the time, was the biggest parade Orange had ever seen. Bob was most proud of being a member of the Stony Creek Fife and Drum Corps for 53 years. He started fifing when he was 12 years old and won medals for individual fifing. He also served on the Governor’s Foot Guard as a fifer.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 2014 and his first wife Joanna in 2016, also daughter in law Luann in2014.
He leaves his children, Larry Fisher of Orange, Rick (Ely) Fisher of Mashpee, Kathleen (Dennis) Koonz of Orange and Lucinda (Jon) Costa of Athol. He also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a brother Thomas of Wallingford, CT.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on January 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. in South Cemetery, 585 South Main Street, Orange.
