ORANGE- Rodney A. Flagg, 86, of Daniel Shays Highway, died at Athol Hospital on November 26, 2023.
Born in Ware on September 2, 1937, he was the son of Rodney C. and Vesta G. (Lincoln) Flagg and lived in Maine, later moving to Barre, Massachusetts and then to Orange.
Rodney married Louise (Taylor) on August 18, 1962 and they have enjoyed 61 years together until her death on October 9, 2023.
Rodney had tied fishing flies for 61 years and had owned and operated Flagg’s Tackle and Bait Shop in Orange.
Rodney was a guide at Sebago Lake in Maine for years. Known nationally, “The Legend”, had invented 7 different ties.
In his younger years, Rodney enjoyed hunting, but fishing was always part of his life. He spent countless hours fishing the Millers River.
Survivors include his daughters, Colleen Curtis and her husband, Robbi Curtis, of Orange, and Becky Deperry and her husband Patrick, of Springfield; a grandson, Robbi Curtis II of Michigan; a granddaughter, McKenzie Deperry of Springfield; his siblings, Paul Flagg and his wife, Sue, of Hubbardston, Rosemary Pinn of Athol, Alan Flagg and his wife, Shavone, of Oakham, and Janet Smiley of Cape Cod; several nephews and nieces, and extended family.
Besides his parents, Rodney was predeceased by sisters, Mabel Keddie and Doris Maloney.
There are no calling hours or services.
