WARWICK- Roger C. Bergquist, 88, of Wendell Road, died on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
Born in Gardner on July 22, 1936, he was the son of Albert and Mabel (Carlson) Bergquist and grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1954.
On July 13, 1954, Roger enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Cascade and was honorably discharged on July 19, 1957.
In 1968, Roger married Rachel (Copeland) and they have enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Roger was employed by the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange as a pattern maker, later owning and operating his own pattern making business, Bergquist Pattern Works, for 25 years before retiring.
Roger loved cars and had built a 1932 Ford roadster in 1957. His loved extended to car racing and he and Rachel attended many major races including the Indy 500 for 25 years in a row, as well as Daytona.
In his younger years, Roger had played semi pro baseball and joked he once threw a no hitter and still lost the game.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Bergquist, of Warwick; and many cousins.
There are no calling hours.
A Funeral service will be held on November 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, with Rev. Cindy Lajoy of the Metcalf Memorial Chapel in Warwick officiating.
Interment will follow in Warwick Center Cemetery, Orange Road (Route 78), Warwick.
