ATHOL- Roger M. Carter, 81, of Lord Street, died late Sunday evening, August 25, 2024 in the Dana Unit at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.
Roger was born on December 19, 1942 in North Troy, Vermont, the son of the late Morris and Shirley (Wilcox) Carter and grew up there and graduated from North Troy High School where he was the valedictorian of his class and proud of this accomplishment.
While living in Vermont, Roger played guitar and sang in a couple bands for local events and clubs.
Roger worked for Union Twist Drill in Derbyline, VT and here in Athol, later going to work at the L. S. Starrett Co. as a computer programmer and becoming a systems analyst.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Therese Carter of Athol; a son, Steven R. Carter (Janet) of Peachtree, GA; daughters, Terri L. McGrath (Gary) and Lori Squalli Vreeland (Thomas), all of Orange; grandchildren, Sinead Carter and her daughter of Westminster, Nathan Carter of Gardner, Brooke Carter and Chloe Carter, both of Peachtree, GA, Aisha Squalli of Orange, Brent McGrath (Aimee) of Lowell, and Tyler McGrath (Jessica) of Laconia, NH; a great grandson Ethan McGrath of Laconia, NH; and a brother, James Carter (Phyllis) of Morgan, VT.
Besides his parents, Roger was predeceased by a sister, Diane Carter.
The family would like to thank the staff at Quabbin Valley Healthcare for their care and kindness and are very appreciative of Roger’s well being as a resident there.
There are no calling hours or services.
Interment in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol, will be private.
