Ruth H. Bass

WARWICK- Ruth H. (Wilson) Bass, 83, of Leland Hill Road and formerly of South Royalston Road in Athol, died peacefully Saturday morning, October 13, 2018 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol.

Born in Erving on January 12, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Earl H. and Dorothy Wilson.

On November 23, 1952, Ruth married Edward F. Bass in Erving and they enjoyed over 53 years of marriage until his death on June 22, 2006.

Ruth worked at the Athol Daily News for 48 years and had a strong work ethic.

A kind, loving lady, Ruth had a smile for all and her family was of the upmost importance. She was always willing to help others and found much enjoyment in doing so. Ruth also enjoyed doing puzzles.

Ruth is survived by her children, Patty Newell (David) of Meriden, CT, Vernon Bass (Kim) of Warwick, and Tim Bass (Judy) of Hubbardton, VT; grandchildren Moriah Bass Zamudio, Erin Bass Putney, Krystal Bass Baker, Cindy Hager Chaisson, Zack Bass, Adam Bass, Corey Bass, Jamey Bass, and Peter Newell;  great-grandchildren, Alex, Mykela-Marie, Isaiah, Norman, Joe Jr., Jennifer, Aden and Jaxon.

Besides her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by sons, Richard Bass and Phillip “Boney” Bass.

A calling hour will be held on October 27, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Edward Boren of the North New Salem Congregational Church officiating.

Interment will be private at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.
