ATHOL- Stephen R. “Boo Boo” Ballou, 75, formerly of Chestnut Hill Avenue, died on early Saturday morning, July 4, 2026 at Fitchburg Healthcare.
Born in Athol on March 7, 1951, he was the son of Francis and Louella (Christ) Ballou.
Following his education at the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School in Orange, Stephen enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and then a tour in the Army. He served in Vietnam before his honorable discharge.
Stephen drove tractor trailer trucks long distance for many years before retiring.
An avid cribbage player, Stephen always enjoyed finding people to join him in a game. He also loved motorcycles.
Stephen is survived by a son, Kyle Gabaree of Orange; sisters, Glenda Guertin of Gardner and Rita Brigleo and her husband Tony of Westfield; a half brother, Robert Ballou of Orange; a half sister, Anne Koshar of Ohio; one nephew and four nieces; good friends James Davis of Gardner and John Hager of Warwick; along with many other friends.
There are no calling hours.
A graveside service be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in South Cemetery, 585 South Main Street, Orange.
