Walter D. Farley III Obituary

WARWICK, MA  - Walter D. Farley III passed away at his home in Warwick, on the morning of Tuesday Feb 13 after a battle with illness.

He is survived by his lifelong wife and partner of 65 years, Beverly (Shepardson) Farley. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter D. Farley Jr., and Anna Farley who also resided in Warwick. In addition to his wife Walter leaves, his sister Claire Michaels (w. Jean Haskell), in-laws: Dave and Beverly Shepardson,  Clara Shepardson, Richard and Patricia Shepardson. His 5 children, Robert (w. Deborah), Patricia Carolus (h. Robert), Steven (w. Leah), Daniel (w. Gwen), and Joseph (w. Kelly),  beloved grandchildren (10), great grandchildren(12),  great-great grandchildren(3), and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Walter was born in Greenfield, MA on October 7, 1938. He spent much of his childhood at his full-time residence in Groton CT, and his part-time residence at Moore’s Pond in Warwick, MA, working many hours at his mother’s hot-dog stand. Spending time in Groton and Warwick continued until Walter & Beverly moved full time to Warwick and built their own home on White Rd. in 1984-85.

Walter Graduated Fitch High School, in Groton Connecticut. He joined the National Guard after high school. He worked for Electric Boat building submarines, doing sheet metal work, and then as an engineering technician for 25 years. While living in Warwick he worked for L.S. Starrett  Company in Athol doing sheet metal work until his retirement in 2001.

Walter enjoyed many hobbies which he shared with his wife, children, and grandchildren, including trophy salt and freshwater fishing, boating, waterskiing, ice-fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, attending Red Sox games, and woodworking. Through the years he played in softball, golf, bowling and horseshoe leagues, and continued playing including hosting weekly horseshoes nights in his official pits built in his yard.

In addition to watching professional sports, he and his wife were often present at basketball, soccer, baseball, and softball games for grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at Metcalf Memorial Chapel in Warwick, MA on March 23 at 1:30 PM

In Lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to the Parkinsons Foundation ,,  Metcalf Chapel, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
