ORANGE- William A. Hemingway Sr., 76, of West Main Street, died on Friday evening, March 10, 2023 at home following an illness, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in West Chazy, New York on April 7, 1946, he was the son of Eugene and Gertrude (Larabee) Hemingway and grew up in New York.
William served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged.
In 1994, he married Diane (Deschaine) and they have enjoyed have enjoyed over 36 years together.
William was a skilled mechanic and auto body repairman and had worked for various garages.
An avid fisherman who especially enjoyed fishing at Lake Mattawa, he also enjoyed taking short car trips.
William is survived by his wife, Diane Hemingway of Orange; his children, Anne Hemingway of Orange, Paula Colon and her husband, Paul, of Orange, and William Hemingway Jr.and Kimberly Bartlett of Athol; grandchildren, Ashley Peirce and her husband Derek of Athol, Krista Cloukey and her husband, Michael, of Warwick, Amber Colon and Zac Little of Danvers, Aaron Hemingway and Rachel Dorow, both of Orange, William Hemingway III and Lylah Hemingway of Athol; great grandchildren, Kaleb Peirce, ;Alyvia Cloukey; and Hunter Cloukey .A sister, Gloria Hemingway Pace of Athol; a brother, George Hemingway and wife Denise of Greenfield; and many nephews and nieces.
Besides his parents, William was predeceased by his brothers, Henry, Eugene and Gerald.
There are no calling hours.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 12-3 p.m. at the Athol-Orange Eagles Club, 99 Hapgood Street, Athol.
Interment in South Cemetery, 585 South Main Street, Orange, will be held at 11 a.m. on April 1, 2023.
