I was 14 and living on this tiny exclave in Washington state in year 2005. When one day I saw we had new neighbors. I had been walking to my friends house when I meet Larry for the first time I remember saying hello as I walked by. Little did I know at the time that would set in motion events and core memories that I will always hold close to my heart. From the first time we talked, to the cold day walking on the beach talking to Larry and Hanne, to sitting on the sidelines with Hanne watching Larry and his friend Greg play football with my two brothers and their friends to Larry trying to get into character by wearing an orange jumpsuit because he was supposed to be prisoner from Alcatraz. To sitting outside the library learning about Hanne's life that was originally just for a school project but brought us closer together. To dressing up in clothes she made and having a mini photo shoot. To Larry coming to my friend's house to help hold a rickety old up to help get my friend down of her roof because she was stuck up there afraid to get down. To us just emailing each other back and forth occasionally after they had moved. To the last time we e mailed we wrote each other that I still have saved in my emails. The last one being about finally figuring out how to listen to his radio program mud on the water and how excited I was finally able to listen to it and him giving me and some of our other friends a shout out. Back in 2015 I got a tattoo of the bat signal from batman begins in his memory and while I know he didn't like batman. It reminds me of him and what he was to me. I don't usually share these stories with many people but this year I felt like I could finally share them.

I took a trip down memory lane yesterday, thinking about the time a friend and I traveled downstate from Burlington, VT, in 2007 to see if we could watch an indie film (All Sun and Little White Flowers) being shot. We arrived, were informed by a crew member that it was the final day of shooting and that they had just wrapped, but then out of the blue we were invited to join them at D's Doghouse for the after party scheduled to begin in a few hours! We accepted. That's when I met Larry and Hanne. They were very welcoming, so full of encouragement, curiosity, and life. There we were, total strangers, celebrating with cast and crew as if we were family. Larry and Hanne even invited us to spend the night across the street at the house they had rented for everyone. It was a magical summer evening, one I'll never forget. So yesterday, thinking of this time, I looked Larry up online and was saddened and shocked to learn of his passing so many years ago now, so shortly after the one and only time I met him. My condolences go out to his loved ones. I thought, even all these years later, you might like to hear this little anecdote about him, and how he left such a memorable impression on someone who knew him for only a few hours.

I'm so sorry to have just found out about Larry, my sincere condolences to Hanna and his family.  Larry and I met at the Denver Film Festival many years ago and we kept in touch for quite some time.  His intelligence, softness and humor always shined through.  I spent the morning looking for his contact info to discuss helping me with a documentary and discovered this sad, shocking news.  May you soar with the wind Larry, until we meet again. With a heavy heart, gaylene

Greetings friends and family of Larry. I'm not sure who may come across, however I am grateful for your help. Larry recommended to me shortly before he passed that I needed to watch his movie "Under the Leakingest Roof". I went to the Holden Automotive website recently and noticed that it no longer exists. I was hoping that whomever sees this may be able to help find a way for me to purchase this movie of his.

Thank you for your help! He was an incredible man.

I was listening to Van Morrison and decided to reach out to my old friend Larry who I liked to call Hank. We both loved Van's music and so I e-mailed him today. He had been on my mind all week. I just found out that he had passed away and realized this past week was the two year anniversary. We had been out of touch as we were both traveling.  I am so sad and will miss him madly. I send love to his wife and all of his family. I know that he will "sail into the Mystic".

I had my first email from Larry in 2002 and last heard from Larry in July 2010 and he was always so good answering my emails and keeping me up to date with what was happening. I usually waited for him to email as I knew he was always so busy and I can't beleive how long it had been since I heard from him so thought I would look him up to see what he had been up to and then I found the sad news of his passing. What a shock, he was so young and so full of "gusto" and did things his way. He called me his first friend in Australia and we swapped a number of things in the mail including some of his movies. He was generous, friendly and full of ideas. I am so sorry that I have only just found out about this and my sympathies go out to his family as I know they would still very much miss him. He was much too young to be taken.

I shall miss my buddy he was a true friend...a brother...We had some Amazing times together. Being both Taurians and the same age bonded our love for the good things in life. We looked at life in the same way... God Bless you Larry the Morrison Brothers will re-unite in peace.

Larry has always been a very passionate person and sensitive man. I met him over ten years ago, working on My Father's House with his beautiful Hanne. I have not seen him in years, but he had a beautiful spirit and a contagious laugh! He was very dedicated to his art and he will live forever through his art, and in the hearts of his family, friends, and sweet Hanne. God bless Larry!

I didn't really know Larry Holden, but I exchanged a couple of e-mails with him in relation to one of his Film Projects a couple of years back.

I stumbled on this sad news today, quite by chance on IMDB. I had literally just stopped by his page to see what he was currently working on, and I couldn't believe it when I read that he had died.

From the limited contact I had with him, he struck me as A Hard Worker & A Straight Talker ... Two Admirable Qualities in Any Human Being As Far As I'm Concerned! ... I Wish That There Were More Like Him!

R.I.P. Mr. Holden ...

Our manager shared the news of your passing yesterday....in the midst of all the craziness at work, I was left feeling hollow and shocked. You are such an amazing man who truly wasn't done with his time here. I will never forget the conversations we shared in the short time I knew you. What an honor it was to be there for you at such a difficult time in your life. "Sometimes, all you gotta do is look outside...and you'll find your answer there." Larry, I'm still looking outside and trying to figure out the answer to this...I will never forget you. Rest easy my man.

Larry Boo,

We met each other a long time ago on a lacrosse practice field. We became friends by hanging out together and sharing our stories and BS. We developed a special bond and became brothers on November 15, 1981 when your father passed away. That's our secret. We went in very different directions in life but stayed connected by our bond. I wish we had spent more time together but we both kept each other in our hearts. You lived a life that most of us can only dream about. The photo you sent me with Al will make me smile as long as I live. Few will appreciate or know how amazing that was. Thanks for your final e-mail to me. I did not realize it was goodbye. "One of these days, I'm gonna sit down and write a long letter to all of the good friends I've know. One of these days.....And it won't be long...it won't be long." Sleep well my brother and continue to dream for us. Leo

Dearest Boo ~ What a warm reception you must have received in heaven from your father and all of our relatives. I am so deeply saddened to know you are gone and that I won't hear your voice anymore or receive an email or a big manila envelope in the mail box with your latest DVD or endeavor. Bob and I were always so flattered that you valued our opinions. You were our family's shining star and we were all so immensely proud of you. I think we were all hoping for one more "welcome home, Larry, pub crawl" but I guess we will have to wait if/when we get to heaven. Will miss you so. Love, "Con Con"

My sister Connee called me Sunday in tears informing me of your death. Once again, I kick myself in the butt for not returning your most recent phone call thinking, as usual, that there’s plenty of time.
I emphasized this very point at Joyce’s farewell at the Monastery. However, it appears I fail to learn this very lesson.
Larry, you remain a perfect example of why this family is so exceptional. So bright a person you are, you lifted all of our spirits with your enthusiasm during your brief visit.
My wait to see you again is agonizing.
As I extend my deepest sympathy to Ricki, Pat, Angie and Deb, we will never ever begin to feel their pain.

Larry’s passing has left me with a deep sense of loss. I developed a friendship with Larry in 2009 after being his neighbor for years. I recently lost my brother and Larry helped me in dealing with my pain. He not only became my friend, but a brother as well. When Larry called to tell me about his condition, I thought how could this happen to such a wonderful being. To hear of his sudden passing is almost too much to bear. Larry provoked thought about things that many wouldn’t dare to share and has made a huge impact on my own thoughts. To lose such an inspirational being that tried to convey humanity through film is dispiriting. I will miss our many walks and coffee talks and treasure the many fond memories of spending time with him. Larry shared my passion of helping all creatures great or small such as the little newts that travel our road. May the Great Spirit watch over your soul my friend.

If you've lost the ability to physically embrace someone or to visualize their presence, you are left with their memories. Some painful-some joyful, but memories nonetheless. As we grieve his loss let's think about Larry's zest for life. He had that great sense of humor and was dedicated to his dream. He believed in life and living.I love you man and even though I wish we had shared more- what we did share was more than enough. My thoughts and prayers are with Ricky,Pat,Angie,Deb,his niece and his nephews who are finding a way to make sense of this.To his friends, my thoughts are with you and I thank you for your many insights and kind expressions of sympathy.
Larry, this was Dave's final tribute to Tootie and it fits you as well.....

My condolences to the family--I was shocked to hear last night about his passing. Larry was a long time fan of Skip Castro Band for whom I play drums. He later invited us to be a part of My Father's House which was a great and fun experience due in large part due to the respect with which he treated us. I always enjoyed his spirit and enthusiasm and admired him for pulling off the filming of that movie despite enormous hurdles. He and I traded emails periodically after he moved to Vermont as, in keeping with his personality, he was truly interested in how the band members were doing. I also sent him some of the band's music to play on his radio show. I hadn't heard from him recently and now, sadly, I know why. We're better off for having known Larry and we'll be sure to dedicate a song to him at one of our shows. Sincerely, Corky Schoonover
